My painting practice has always treaded a fine line between abstraction rooted in the physical world and the figurative. At the core of this is a search for the transcendent reality that nests itself invisibly within the physical manifest world that we are all a part of. Philosophy, religion, esoteric practices, nature, art history and the daily grind and confrontation with the limitations of the phyiscal realities of living, have all shaped me and my painting practice.
I approach the process of painting first and foremost as a poetic process that embraces paradox as the ultimate reality that we all need to make sense of on a daily basis. Aesthetic beauty, ambiguity, stillness, silence and light are integral elements with which I work with. My intention is that my painting is to be firstly experienced as a reality within, in a manner that it may open you up to a transcendent experience of the the mystery that gently invites us into relationship, through everything that we do on a daily basis.
I paint predominantly in oils and my work ranges from large canvases to miniature paintings. The heroic and the humble is integral to this range of scale as I negotiate my daily need to assert my existence within this world and yet allowing myself to be vulnerable enough to allow this transcendent “mystery’ to penetrate and be released from within my deepest core.
I hope you enjoy the work and this website and are enriched by it in some measure.
